Sometimes it seems as if advertising cars is as important to the automobile industry as building them.  This was never more true than during the pony car era of the late 1960s and early 1970s.  Competition between Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Barracuda, and Cougar was fierce, with each manufacturer seeking a chunk of this new and profitable market.

Looking back from our perspective today, Lincoln-Mercury Division's advertising from that period adds a great deal to our knowledge of classic Cougars.  Magazine ads, for example, show us which segments of the market L-M was seeking to capture in their efforts to reverse the Cougar's declining sales after 1967.  Ads also sometimes give us a look at unique option packages, like the Dan Gurney Special.  So, for your enjoyment and education, TCCN II presents The Classic Cougar Advertising Gallery.
